Cosmopolitanism is a philosophy and the globalization is born out of the thought from the philosophy as one global village . In past years, Economical Globalization used to be the ideology of the globalization. But in last few years social media has changed the dynamics of ideology of globalization. It has bring the social, cultural aspect also globalization also. Economic Globalization still holds a big portion in terms of globalization but nowadays it has been to some extent as technologism is rising the people are getting closer. In this hyper connected world, social media isn’t just a platform, it has become a integral part of daily life routine where we connect with each other , through different mediums. Social media came out of the motive of connecting people. Various social apps are there in the market which provides variety of content , not only it provides entertainment , publicity it has provided the employment to many, it has added the flavours to globalization in social , cultural aspect , even it has also promoted the economic globalization by providing the employment to many. Social Media has became the fastest way to influence others. It has transformed the world by enabling people to connect with others. People from different regions are adopting different cultures, their language, food , dress sense , cosmetics, technology ,and so on . Globalization has been became a trend on social media .Social media has breakdown the geographical barriers , it has extended the limits . Social media platforms like Instagram , Facebook , Twitter , Dating apps , Linkedin allows user to express their idea, creativity , gives a medium where people from worldwide shares their experience , their opinion and many more . This fosters a global village effect , Social media doesn’t only connects people but it creates community . A community where people from the worldwide considering themselves as the same . At the recent times , I think Meta and YouTube is the most commonly used social media platforms. There people who create major content , posts it to their respective profile ,and the people who are watching it and get influenced by their ideas, these people are called social media influencer and the one who get influenced are their subscribers or followers respectively. They are sharing their lifestyle , travelling experience , reviewing books, some people are making information page where they share latest news and many more this is how there is interconnectivity in the world . Social media is transforming the world , so we can say that adaptation , practicing , transferring the same ideology whether it is of modernization or civilization or of development its a new form of globalization . Globalization is not confined to international trades ,investment or import -export only , but it is something that is accepting, recognizing, growing and supporting each other. Social media is serving to cosmopolitans as it acts as a “goodie bag of idea” where the user encounter the diversity of world. There is a dynamic interplay between social media and the globalization . Social media has given a pace to globalization , it doesn’t harms the sovereignty of the states but it makes people to acknowledge the cultural relativism of the others.
The Decline of Westphalian Sovereignty and Methodological Nationalism
The World on Social Media signals a shift away from methodological nationalism to methodological cosmopolitanism .The traditional view that the nation-state is the only relevant legal and social category has been replaced with the idea connectedness. The Canadian philosopher Marshall McLuhan’s concept of Global Village has been realized through social media's ability to overcome physical distance, turning the earth into an interconnected interactive field , it is vital to note that these digital flows challenge Westphalian sovereignty. International law is increasingly dealing with "network societies" where social and political relationships are no longer bounded by spatial location. This creates a "borderless cultural exchange" that undermines a state's traditional power to control information and cultural influence within its frontiers. The term cosmopolitan legality or cosmopolitanism from below provides a recognition to the "connected migrant", a new citizen of the world who is both "rooted and routed" using social media to bridge the gap between their host culture and their home country.
Influence of Social Media on Globalization
The impact of social media is a complex phenomenon that has changed the global social systems, the tendencies of cultures and how people find their way in their identity and belonging. It is the major platform of the so-called digital globalization, the enhancement of the exchange of ideas, customs and lifestyles at an unprecedented rate. The social media is bringing about the replacement of world citizen by world villager. This impact of social media on the globalization of the world is a perfect location of the Network Theory since the approach allows one to abandon methodological nationalism (seeing the nation-state as the most important legal entity) and adopt more methodological cosmopolitanism instead.
Summary
Digital globalization is a pioneer phase in global development due to its exponential data transborder flows and a Fourth Industrial Revolution. This has completely actualized the global village by the Marshall McLuhan, where social media has broken the physical boundary by creating digital proximities that everyone is considered a neighbor in the same interactive space. In contrast to the older, elite-based conceptions of the world citizen, this new digital cosmopolitanism is about the world villager, such as connected migrants who are still rooted and routed and digital nomads who are defying the traditional work-life boundaries by transitional social networks. The key to this ecosystem is the influencer effect in which the thought leaders within the network societies control communication to manipulate culture and formation of global trends. Instagram and TikTok are the social media that democratize style and enables adaptation to various cultures, and it is possible to have a dialogue-based broadening of the horizons. But this connectivity is tainted with a dark side that is very critical. Data colonialism uses predatory data collection as a lever on human experience, whereas algorithmic oppression recreates biases of the systemic sexist and racist. In the case of vulnerable populations such as refugees, the so- called techno-colonialism and biometric registration can make bodies a test laboratory on surveillance. Finally, digital cosmopolitanism is something of a tedious aspiration- a required strenuous, yet dangerous model of navigating an inextricably connected world.
